Death penalty in Uganda.
The Ugandan parliament member David Bahati, proposed a new law which says “When servants of Uganda make themselves guilty of extreme gay sexual behaviours, they will get the death penalty.”
This new law which is called ‘anti-homosexuality 2009’, is meant to protect Uganda against foreign cultures. The ‘extreme’ part, prescribes that when two gay persons are attracted to each other who can’t control their feelings and want to have sex, they will get the death penalty. When they can control their feelings, it’s a medium gay sexual behaviour resulting in a lifetime in prison as a big thank you. If someone disagrees with this law and says this openly, Uganda says it’s lightly gay sexual behaviour (even when they are not gay) and they will be sent directly in prison for five years.
Some sources in Uganda say it’s quite likely the law will be accepted. Some gay organisations are still hoping the law will rejected, but even with some external pressure, they think the chance of this is very small. So if this law is enacted, Uganda will become the eighth country in the world with the death penalty for being gay (and also punishing gay minded people). This African country will be the only non-muslim country in the world where gay-minded people will be imprisoned for their beliefs and homosexuality will be punishable by death.
I understand that countries have their rules and some have religious issues about some things, but this?
I truly believe a protest against the anti-gay law will not help at all, but to a give a response maybe we all need to stop giving money to develop their country and feed their people. For sure they will not reject money from any gay person who tries to help develop this country. So what is the point of donating, if they kill the people from our community? I think a protest in your own country to stop charity to countries like this would be the best response.
