Although this gay pride is growing as well in the past years it is not organized
as a party festival.
Of course the people are happy and are singing and dancing on the Spanish Samba
music, but the essence of this gay pride is to make the yearly team more visible,
and has more of an demonstration than a party. This year the theme was 'school
and being gay' the organisation 'GAMA' and their volunteers is working the whole
year in this theme by education on schools. It is Clear that the Las Palmas
gay pride has a reason and not only to enjoy yourself. (We are on the way, but
there is still a long way to go)
It was a happy day, the weather was good as well (27 degrees) and no clouds.
Quit a lot were watching the parade from the sideline and that is what it
was all about. A gay parade is from origin meant to get respect and understanding
from the people that are watching. Because the gays in the parade already
respect the other gays.
Also you can see that the gaypride Las Palmas is growing and has little by
little more entertainment, this year 2 big music trucks joined in with loads
of guapos and guapas dancing and singing, which is also important so more
people will come and see next years parade.
We were happy to be able to support this event and want to thank GAMA and
the volunteers for all the great work they are doing all year long.
