Drag March for A.C.E.S.

The month started with World Aids Day on the 1st of December.

Luckily lot of drag queens appeared on the annual drag march and like always, the magpies of Gran Canaria where totally in shock with all the glitter, glamour and crystals being paraded around the Yumbo Centre.

All this to raise some extra attention for all the people who volunteer in the battle against AIDS and HIV. This year the ribbon was filled with candles and even though it wasn’t that busy in the centre, we all raised a spectacular amount of 1240 euros.

Reds New cruising club

Since December 1st Reds opend their doors, at the Avenida Tirajana.

This new gay cruising club is daily open from 18:00 till 02:00. Nice big bar zone on the base floor, and a big cruizing area in the basement.

From 18:00 - 21:00 the’re no dressing codes, but after 21:00 you can choice for underwear ot naked. With only 3 minutes walk from Yumbo center, you will find the entrance on the side of the Barbados Appartments.

Sparkles sun tanning.

It’s already open for a wile and with success. Many people where saying why a sun tanning salon here on gran canaria, and with a lot of doubts of a potent ional good running business, they already proved it’s working with success.

And why not, having a quick sunbath session in a salon where you else need to walk to the beach, and wait for hours to get some colour on your pale body, it’s so much easier.

Pool Party Babylon

The 8th of November the first pool party organized by jumbo’s newest disco Babylon ended up in a success full afternoon. With fabulous music, party people and sexy swimming trunks where passing by a provided fashion show of the new - ES -collection canarias for 2011.
Bungalow complex Los Almendros together with Babylon disco where giving their very first pool party together and in our opinion it was a successful one.

Parrots

After 20 years success Pub nestor closed their doors.
With a lot of rumours about this venue it's finally open as Parrots gran canaria.

With a successful business module in one of the most popular gay holiday destination Sitges, parrots spread their wings to fly over to gran canaria.
Since the first week of November ’ Coming soon’ which is still transition to ‘Parrots gran canaria ‘ opened their doors with a new and fresh wind in the venue. The opening hosted by Miss lady Diamond and Miss Ruby attracted a lot of people to the venue which is good to start a new business on for them a new location based on the ground floor of the yumbo centre.

Halloween

This years Halloween was a big success.
Every year the most of the bars in the yumbo are decorating their bar in to a spooky but still pleasant place to enjoy your drink. Lot of the yumbo workers where dressing themselves up for this event and many tourist where joining them with the most spectacular creations.

Every year it seems to be more busy in yumbo during Halloween, all the effort the staff and bar owners put in their decorations is working because lot of people from other centres are informed to come to the yumbo to celebrate Halloween.

Dog Show

More than 30 dogs with their owners paraded in the Yumbo

Glay Association organized this charity event whose proceeds will go to the Humane Society in Gran Canaria ANAHI

In total was thirty-five dogs registered to participate in seven different categories, which provided the original contest with prizes to: the prettiest bitch, handsomest dog, dog best dressed or disguised, the top 6 feet (dog and owner), the best mix of breeds, dog smartest, most like its owner. Also the winner of each of the categories presented in the final, to qualify for the prize awarded by the judges favorite.

Open the Box is back

Everyone knows the great Open the Box show, which was given in Pub Nestor for many many years. the Postman, the games and of course the Host Miss Beverly Hills.

Great news for all those wo really missed this game show, IT IS BACK !!

Terry’s Show

One of the most famous icon of the yumbo center and I think of the whole island Terry celebrated also his birthday, and like every year this bring a lot of people to yumbo boulevard. A full show with residents artistes of the bar and off course terry where entertaining the people till the early hours.

Jackies Bar

Jackie and carol said farewell to their bar in the yumbo ….
This sad news isn’t as sad as it sounds because both will stay on the island and freshly opened therr own guesthouse … well done Jackie and carol!

After a couple of years making a successful lesbian bar in the yumbo, it was time to move on for the two ladies , we are very pleased to announce the bar keeps it’s same vibes and hopefully success because 2 new owners Ian and Richard will continue Jackie’s bar …
With 2 new owners, new energy and the look and feel and the right attitude it can’t go wrong with the for years already successful lesbian bar where guys are always welcome!

Fuze Bar

Downstairs on the ground floor of the yumbo center fuze bar celebrated his first year anniversary.
Formally known as veuvette and toby’s bar and now knowned as fuze-bar.
In the yumbo center it’s like nowhere else on the island, if there is something to celebrate do it good!

Dinaaaah Might

October 15th at sparkles the one and only little miss Dinah-might celebrated his birthday.

The weeks before Dinah aka. Tony became 40 the flyers, posters, adverts where presenting the one and only 80’s superstar Toy Wilcox to perform at his birthday. This successful show attracted many people of the first floor, for sure tony’s birthday celebration is one to remember for a long time.

Amigos

Marcel and David, better known as the Guapo boys due to their successfull magazine, have now partnered with "the belgium gang" in taking over XL men's club by opening Amigos bar.

This is your Holiday Party Bar in the Yumbo with several wide screen showing the latest music video, combined with a warm, relaxing decor make it the perfect party lounge. Whever you want to party the night away, enjoy a drink with friends or chill out after work with great background sounds, Amigos accomodate all.

From 22.00, soak up the atmosphere on the terrace over looking the whole Yumbo, then at 3.00, you'll be invited to continue the partying inside untill 6.00.

Babylon

Holland and Belgium came together to take over XL men's club.
Sebastien, Mattia and Frederic are belgiums who use to holliday regularly in playa del ingles and enjoy partying the night away in the Yumbo.They already own several night life clubs, bars in Charleroi but wanted to share their passion within sunny Gran Canaria.

Marcel passes away

Some sad news arrived during the carnival. Marcel passed away on Friday the 19th of March 2010.

Marcel a lovely friendly person who together with his partner Peter had a successful business gaybed.info and also owned radio regenbogen here on Gran Canaria, over.

Drag Queen Maniaaaaa

Carnival maspalomas was this year themed Eurovision. The stage looked amazing, the shows were remarkable and unforgettable.

The most popular was off course the gala drag-queen which became in the last couple of years a real cultural event. Thousands of people came and watched this incredible show.

Where are the Dunes

Do we need to say bye to the good old days at kiosk 7? Also know as the Gay Beach of Maspalomas ?

The weather of this last weeks with heavy rains and winds affected many beauty spots. Off course every plant need some water and the panoramic views from the mountains will, for the next weeks, be exceptionnal . But heavy rain falls first destroyed some roads and while the water needs to find its way to the sea, the valleys were overfloawing and the natural bay in the dunes filled up.

The story of El Paso

First, let me introduce ourselves,Vidas and Darius, together for over 11 years, moved to Gran Canaria 3 months ago from lreland, but originated from Lithuania.

We're fluent in Lithuanian (which is not a dialect of Russian or Slavic as so many think, but a beautiful language on its own), English and Russian but not much Spanish yet... We spent few happy holidays here and as many of you who emigrated will know, the main reason is the mild climate, beautiful beaches and of course the gay life style..
