Gay guys with high pitched voices?
The prejudices about gays with high pitched voices are still out there, but is this a myth or a hard fact?
If the common view about gays is true, then all gays have high pitched voices and lesbians will talk with a much lower voice. They had a study to find out how much of this is fact or just a common misconception.
The study by a North-Western university, gay guys made the vowels lower in their
speech and lesbians pronounced the back-vowels very strongly, compared with
the guys. Further the speech patterns were the same as straight men and women.
If the gays have a group conversation it sounds as if they have high pitched
voices, so the common perception is because of that. It isn’t a real fact, but
you can compare it with the speech they use between each other, this all happens
unconsciously, but some of the group members become aware to pitch up their
voices to make sure they are part of the group.
So gay guys and lesbian girls are making their own sort of slang to pronounce
words differently, How innovative are we? How great are we to be able to change
the normal pronunciation without being aware of this, and then we get loads
of studies about our behaviour as well … Some of you will ask why they are conducting
complete studies about us, we are just normal people, but this isn’t true, we
are always a bit more special than the straight people, not just different.
…. SPECIAL!
